David is a musician, teacher, writer, and political activist. He's resided in Southside Place and State District 17 for several decades and knows first hand the issues facing the district. He has been married for 33 years to his wife, Chandrakantha Courtney, and they have raised two children together, both a son and a daughter. His formal training is in world music with a specialization in the music of South Asia. He attended Texas A&M University and the Ali Akbar College of Music in California. He has been teaching for the last 35 years, primarily to children. In this capacity he has been involved with Houston's Young Audiences for nearly 20 years. As an author he has published nine books and has over 60 publications to his credit. As a political activist he has been involved in civic level activism as well as Democratic party politics, where he was involved in a variety of progressive issues before joining the Green Party in 2011.
